At the foot of towering cliffs in the Célé valley, the visitor can discover a village that remains as in bygone days
The prosperous abbey, like the abbey of Conques, was built between the 11th and 13th centuries. Rocamadour used to belong to the abbey, long before the pilgrims started to flock to that sanctuary.
The abbey in Marcilhac was founded by the abbey of Moissac to receive pilgrims on their way to Compostela. Today you can see the ruins of the Romanesque abbey its chapter house with beautiful sculptures and the Gothic reconstruction of the church.
There is a good view of the village from Pailhès.
Canoes can be hired, there is a tennis court and many trails for walkers’ and horse riders.
Marcilhac sur Célé is on the Way of Saint James (an alternative section 651 of the GR 65.
