FIGEAC, birthplace of Champollion

Despite a past rich with history, Figeac is firmly established in contemporary life : an economy based on leading technology, a significant young population, and a dynamic cultural policy make it particularly attractive. The former small rural town has since the first half of the 20th century seen the arrival of the aviation firm Ratier, specialised in the design and production of aircraft parts. It is today the largest company in the department of the Lot and is the main factor of development for the town.

Due to the presence of this company, Figeac has developed professional training and is proud to be the smallest town to have a Technological University. In recent years the ambitious cultural policy of the town, notably the Musée Champollion – Les Ecritures du Monde, has accentuated the singularity of its image of a small town respectful of the past and open to modernity.
